Description

Hawk Performance LTS

We understand that traditional car brake pad technology just doesn't cut it on today's trucks. This is especially true for heavily loaded trucks and vehicles used in moderate towing. Our LTS (Light Truck and SUV) compound dramatically improves your vehicle's stopping power and fade resistance. It will also outlasts the competition in terms of rotor and pad wear. Ideal for a broad range of import and domestic vehicles, the LTS compound provides superior stopping power and longer pad life without excessive noise and dust. Engineered by truck brake pad experts, the Ferro-Carbon friction material of LTS is the optimal pad choice for light duty trucks, all classes of SUVs, and vans up to 1 ton. Expect 20-40% more stopping power over stock replacement pads.

Expert Opinion

The Hawk LTS is a good choice for light trucks and SUVs when your primary goal is to increase stopping power rather than minimize brake dust. The LTS compound is relatively clean but will generate some brake dust when compared to the Hawk Ceramic. The performance of the LTS will be better than the Hawk Ceramic and HPS, but not as good as the SuperDuty. If towing often, I would suggest the Hawk SuperDuty rather than the LTS, as the SuperDuty compound has a substantially higher temperature range to deal with high temperatures created while towing. If not towing often, the LTS will be your best choice.

Hawk Brake Pad Installation Procedure

  • Install Brake pads properly. Be sure pads are securely positioned in the caliper.
  • Flush system with fresh brake fluid.
  • Check all hydraulic parts for excess wear and tear.
  • Check disc for proper thickness, parallelism, and lateral run-out.
  • Check disc for scoring or grooves over .012"" depth. If either applies, resurfacing or replacement is required.
  • If disc does not need resurfacing then contamination from the previous brake pads must be removed. Sand discs with Garnet sandpaper using moderate pressure. Use soap and water to clean off disc surface after sanding and machining. Discs should be free and clear of oil, grease, and brake fluid
  • Inspect calipers for freedom of movement. Lubricate where necessary

 

Hawk Brake Pad Bedding Procedure - Street Compounds

  • Make 6-10 slow-downs from approximately 30-35 mph to 5 mph. applying moderate pressure. Do not come to a complete stop.
  • Make an additional 2 to 3 harder stops from approximately 40-45 mph. to zero.
  • DO NOT DRAG THE BRAKES! (after stopping - do not leave your foot on the brake pedal)
  • Allow 15 minutes or more for the brake system to cool down.
  • Your new Hawk pads are ready for use.

Looks like I get to be the first review for these guys. Let me start out by saying that I have had 3 other cars of a similar caliber to my GTR serviced/worked on and upgrades installed at other shops and none took the pride and level of detail that these guys did. I wish I could see all the welds on the downpipes and exhaust because it looked like artwork. Their fabricator made sure to send me daily updates and pictures which was also a big deal to me. For being an out of state experience it made it seem more like they were local to me and that I had known them for longer.
