Injen Performance: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do I need a tune or ECU re-flash to install an Injen intake?

No, most Injen intake systems are engineered to run safely on stock factory ECU tuning. Injen utilizes patented MegaRam (MR) Technology to tune the intake pipe diameter and maintain proper Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor scaling, keeping your air/fuel ratios safely within factory parameters without triggering a check engine light.

Are Injen intake systems CARB legal in emissions-restricted states?

Many Injen intake systems are CARB compliant and legal for use in all 50 states. Systems that are CARB exempt include an official California Air Resources Board E.O. decal that must be placed under the hood for vehicle inspection. Check the specific product fitment notes on each product page for its exact CARB clearance status.

Is it safe to drive with a Cold Air Intake (CAI) in heavy rain?

Yes, normal wet driving conditions and rain spray pose no risk to your engine. However, to prevent water ingestion (hydro-lock) during heavy downpours or high-standing water, we recommend using an Injen Hydroshield. These hydrophobic pre-filters repel water splashes while allowing air to flow freely into the filter element.

How do I clean and maintain my blue SuperNano-Web® Dry Air Filter?

Injen SuperNano-Web filters are dry media filters and do not require oiling. To clean, simply remove the filter and blow low-pressure compressed air from the inside out to dislodge trapped dirt and dust, or gently vacuum around the pleats. Never wash or submerge dry SuperNano-Web filters in liquid or oil.

What should I do if my Check Engine Light (CEL) comes on after installation?

First, verify all silicone couplers, vacuum lines, and hose clamps are securely tightened, as vacuum or air leaks downstream of the MAF sensor are the primary cause of a CEL. Double-check that your MAF sensor is installed facing the correct direction. If the light remains, scan the diagnostic code (P-code) and contact our support team.

Will an Injen intake system fit with aftermarket engine modifications?

Injen intakes are engineered and dyno-tested around factory OEM engine bays, throttle bodies, and original mounting locations. While they fit seamlessly with stock setups, fitment with non-OEM aftermarket parts (such as upgraded intercooler piping, oversized radiators, or custom strut tower bars) is not guaranteed.
