Slotted, Drilled, or Blank Rotors: Which do I need?

Blank Rotors: The standard for daily driving. They provide maximum surface area for the brake pad, offering smooth, quiet stopping power and the longest lifespan.

Slotted Rotors: Best for heavy-duty towing, off-roading, or track use. The slots sweep away brake dust, water, and hot gases, keeping the pad surface clean and preventing brake fade.

Drilled & Slotted Rotors: Ideal for aggressive street driving and aesthetics. The drilled holes provide maximum cooling to reduce rotor temperatures, while the slots maintain a clean contact patch.

Should I choose Ceramic or Semi-Metallic brake pads?

Ceramic Pads: The best choice for 90% of street-driven vehicles. They are exceptionally quiet, produce very little brake dust (keeping your wheels clean), and last a long time.

Semi-Metallic Pads: The go-to for performance cars, track days, and heavy towing. They handle extreme heat much better than ceramic pads and offer a stronger initial "bite," though they will produce more visible brake dust and can occasionally squeal when cold.

When should I replace my brake rotors?

You should replace your rotors if you experience steering wheel vibration or a pulsing brake pedal when stopping, as this indicates the rotor has warped. You also need new rotors if they have deep grooves, massive rust scale on the friction surface, or if they have worn down past the manufacturer's minimum thickness specification. We generally recommend replacing rotors anytime you replace your brake pads to ensure even bedding and optimal performance.

Do I need a Big Brake Kit (BBK) or just upgraded pads and rotors?

If you are increasing your vehicle's horsepower, running larger or heavier wheels, or taking your car to track days, a Big Brake Kit offers larger calipers with more pistons and oversized rotors for massive stopping power and heat dissipation. However, if your car is a spirited daily driver and you simply want better stopping performance than stock, upgrading to a premium set of slotted rotors, high-performance pads, and stainless braided brake lines is usually more than enough.

How do I break in (bed) my new brakes?

Properly bedding your new brakes transfers an even layer of friction material from the pad onto the rotor, preventing squealing and judder. While procedures vary slightly by brand, it generally involves doing 5 to 6 moderate stops from 40 mph to 10 mph, followed by 3 to 4 aggressive stops from 60 mph to 10 mph without ever coming to a complete halt. Afterward, drive normally for 5-10 minutes to let the brakes cool down. Always check the specific instructions included in your brake pad box.
