Locking hubs connect or disconnect the front wheels from the axle shafts on compatible four-wheel-drive vehicles. When locked, the hubs allow engine power to reach the front wheels for four-wheel-drive traction. When unlocked, the front wheels can rotate without driving portions of the front axle and differential.
